Blissful Moon

Today is a spectacular day in Chicagoland: the skies are bright, blue, and filled with puffy white clouds; the air is light upon your skin; and it feels as if you can see forever. I drove Cat and her dad out to Rock Cut State park to spend a few days camping and the park was full of folks out enjoying the beautiful weather.

We settled them into a really nice campsite surrounded on three sides by trees and then headed over to the lake to get a few things from the concessions stand. The concessions stand sits on Pierce Lake and the beautifully placid lake was full of boaters out enjoying the warm weather. I walked to the end of the pier and took my shoes off and dangled my feet into the warm water. Kicking the water, I enjoyed the splash of the cool water against my legs and I laughed as all my cares and worries floated away.

Driving back to the campsite we spotted a wild turkey on the side of the road and were reminded of the beauty with which we share this world. I felt terribly envious as I left them to head back home as I realized I'd be slaving away in an office for the next few days while they enjoyed the beauty of nature. My only consolation was that I'd be back to enjoy one final night of camping with them on Tuesday and I'd get to enjoy the fun of the campfire, S'mores, and all the goodness that camping entails.

Heading home I looked up and saw a beautiful partial moon against the bright blue of the sky and was reminded of how blissfully wonderful nature really is.
